That Is Not Dead Which Can Eternal Lie...

...and in strange aeons, even this blog may be updated.

Believe or not I have a half-written post for Temple of Terror that I intend to complete and publish before the end of the year. Two earlier drafts died face-down in the muck in the intervening years (they were not good), but this one I think will make it.

My grown-up daddy's life doesn't afford a lot of time for writing nonsense anymore and such time as I do have for creative endeavour is largely consumed by DUNGEONS & FUKKEN DRAGONS.

Recently I decided to share some of the homebrew stuff I've done for D&D, so if you have any interest in such matters you can check out the new "companion blog" over here:

  1. Glad to see a post here again! Sure, practical dadhood takes up time, but it's good to keep honing the nonsense. After all, we must pass on a healthy sense of the absurd to the next generation, not to mention an appreciation for SKELETONS. Looking forward to ToT. Cheers!

  5. Very excited about this. ToT was a childhood highlight although even then I realised that the messenger of death must be a particularly inefficient assassin. I mean, he comes up behind YOU and puts his hand on your shoulder - no thought of an assassination attempt at that stage? I spent most of my childhood and teenage years considering 288 to be my unlucky number as it was the page reference when you encountered Malbordous. I still get the odd twinge even now if I come across it in a spreadsheet. Looking forward to it Murray!

  9. Well I never ... I'm still paying attention! Glad now. Mayhaps there will be more adventures and more SKELETONS and maybe even more SLAMMIN BODS. Perhaps you could employ your little one to draw the occasional SABRE-TOOTHED TIGRE to illustrate the article.

    1. Great! I'm still alive. I keep waiting but it never finishes writing itself. I'm not sure what to do.

  13. Just read the whole lot on & off over two days (redirected from a comment on a 2018 Guardian piece on FF, no less). Absolutely amazing bro, and heartened that you are still hanging in there after all this time - not sure I'd possess the same level of grim determination!

Ma-HOO-sive FF fan in my youth, devoured them up until the book numbers began to enter the 20s or so, then my interest naturally tailed off (to be replaced by other things). Interest re-ignited as I'm thinking of introducing them to my 10-year old & can honestly say I'm tempted to jump back in myself (catching up on some of the titles I never played, including, would you believe, the legendary COH) but I'm wary of revisiting my childhood as it's almost always a disappointment, as opposed to one's memories...

One last thing; although technically not part of the FF series (but set in the same universe), I've always considered the Sorcery! (mandatory exclamation mark!) series to be the high watermark for FF and would LOVE to read your take on those...after you're done with the core FF series, naturally. You will? Great? I've already booked myself in for cryogenic suspension, in anticipation... Thanks so much my friend!! :D

  14. what a nice comment!

I'm inspired to go do another 20 minutes on my Temple of Terror post
Unfortunately I need to probably play the book from scratch again because my notes don't mean a damn thing to me anymore
there's just a lot of cussing about PTERODACTYLS (?!?!?)

I have the Sorcery books BTW but at this rate that bloke from the cover of Talisman of Death will come get me before I ever write up those books

    1. You're very welcome Murray. I'm currently reading this, just wondered if you knew it existed? I highly recommend it, the nostalgia factor is unreal!
