The Fighting Fantasy re-discovery blog in which YOU are not the hero. You are just a reader.
I love these. Everytime I see a new teaser I open the tab cautiously and proceed to chortle. My wife will never understand. I tried once...after ten minutes (with flowcharts) I could feel I was losing her...
Welcome back. Been missing a FF fix - nice one. Please check out my blog; mostly miniatures at the mo but will include FF and RPGs too in time...http://easilylead.wordpress.comCheers!
That is some badass MS Paint work right there.Congratulations on rolling up another little character!
I wonder whether those heads are always floating around be hind him or if they all come popping out when someone enters the room."Doooooh, you set it off you stupid Gargantis! Do you know how long it takes to get them all in there?"
LOVE his freaky long arm though. Thing gives me the shivers.
Is that just a regular skull a-restin' on the ground behind him (just above the tastefully designed FF logo)- or could it be a SKELETON standing at the bottom of the stairs saying "Hey SORCEROR I'm just popping out to Spar to get some fags and Haribo do you need anything?" Who knows...
Thanks for the appetiser, time for the MAIN COURSE!
Just stumbled on your blog - very funny and brings back a lot of happy memories! Hope to see more from you!
Just read through the whole of this blog. Enormously entertaining. Probably the best I have read since "The Darth Side" many years ago.Weirdly, I noticed in your bio that you were one of only a small handful of people who read my short-lived economics blog from a few years ago (Economics Rewired). Maybe I'll get back to it at some point. At the very least it's allowed me to reply to many people in online spats over the last couple of years with a simple URL rather than with a cut and paste of a whole slew of text.
Oh, and I found the blog purely by accident. I suddenly had the phrase "Racknee! You have returned!" pop into my mind (I have no idea why); I searched for it and this was the only page in the entire Google-indexed world to have it.
I'm really happy to provide the world's foremost internet destination for the phrase "Racknee! You have returned!"
Found this blog recently and have read all of it, great stuff I hope the author continues. I remember playing Creature of Havoc as a child and just giving up due to the difficulty. Recently I got back into the series with the digital version on my phone, and have played all the books Tin Man Games have released. I also found a link to Fighting Fanzine on there website that ranked all the books based on viewer feedback. Thought I'd see how the books done on the blog rank up. There are a total of 70 books:1 The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (#44) 2 The Citadel of Chaos (#33) 3 The Forest of Doom (#54) 4 Starship Traveller (#69) - (i.e. 2nd worst)5 City of Thieves (#17)6 Deathtrap Dungeon (#7) 7 Island of the Lizard King (#35)8 Scorpion Swamp (#59)9 Caverns of the Snow Witch (#38)10 House of Hell (#6)11 Talisman of Death (#28)12 Space Assassin (#63)13 Freeway Fighter (#58)
Oh yeah links here: http://www.fightingfantazine.co.uk/FF5.pdf
Interesting! So, quality of the gamebooks reviewed so far, as ranked by the readers of Fighting Fantazine:1) House of Hell2) Deathtrap Dungeon3) City of Thieves4) Talisman of Death5) Citadel of Chaos6) Island of the Lizard King7) Caverns of the Snow Witch8) Warlock of Firetop Mountain9) Forest of Doom10) Freeway Fighter11) Scorpion Swamp12) Space Assassin13) Starship TravellerI don't have any particularly strong feelings about that order of merit save that I'd bump Freeway Fighter to the bottom and probably promote Talisman of Death up to #3...
Congratulations on your new arrival, Murray! As for the list, I have a soft spot for Scorpion Swamp, although I totally agree with you saying how tame it was.
As a game, house of hell suffers from the one true path to a terrible extent. But as a book it is so full of atmosphere that you can forgive it. It's a shame that exploring the book usually means horrible death. But then what would you expect from a HOUSE OF HELL?}
Scorpion Swamp is definitely better than Forest of Doom though!Any news re when/if we can expect Temple of Terror? I found the book pretty dull, but am looking forward to seeing what you made of it.
you ever gonna write another one dude? I keep checking back to see if another of your hilarious reviews has been added but disappointment alas :(
yeah do another one
I really enjoyed Freeway Fighter. No kidding, it was my favourite. Neither the shortcomings of the artwork nor the severely limited grain-carrying capacity of my beloved interceptor ever crossed my mind. But I would gladly hand my original copy over to an honest-to-god SKELETON in exchange for your continuation of the Great Work. Don't let the adventure end here.
Man, I miss the updates on this blog. Even the happy lizard teasers had me in stitches. Please, don't say it's over....
Just discovered your great blog! Love your blog entries about the great FF series! Will we ever be seeing any more..? I really hope so! :-)
So sad you seem to have given up on this blog.. :( It is my cleaer favourite out of the weird niche group of FF play blogs.
So sad that the great work is seemingly over, with so many skeletons as yet undiscovered!
Hey man, please don't let this blog die. There are dozens of us. Dozens!
yeah maybe i should do another one huh
30 months on and no Temple of Terror! I gather there are quite a few skeletons to count, but you're taking your time!
some of them are buff dudes with skulls for heads?!??!i'm stuck trying to figure that out
Do it man. This blog keeps me sane. If Digitiser2000 hadn't come back i would have done a real cry.
Where are the skeletons?!Seriously, I love this and the other gamebook tributes. I've even started my own (specific to the Way of the Tiger series) at www.wayofthetigerblog.wordpress.com
Ive been off work for a few days so went back a re-read all these. They really are fantastic and I hope you start them up again! Great work!
definitely do another one!
More please! Even if just one more for old times!
